January 12th

Alex had a great report today!

As you all know, Alex has been on a ventilator since he was brought to the hospital. The doctors of the past few days have been slowly weening him off. Today they turned it completely off for a minute and Alex was breathing on his OWN! Now the doctors are planning to have him completely off the ventilator some time tomorrow. The one thing that they need Alex to do is cough on his own.

Alex also opened his left eye a few times last night, a few times today when they rotated him on his bed, and when they were clearing his lungs! It was not on his own or on command, but it is still encouraging none the less, so we will take it!

Today is in some ways "classic" Alex, he is lounging around in his "loin cloth," Jordans, and some Nike socks. In some way he looks right at home, just not on the couch.

We are asking everyone to join with us for two specific things today:

- That Alex will cough by himself. This is what the doctors need to see in order to remove the ventilator tube.

-Swelling! We need everyone to continue to pray for the swelling to go down, as this is vital for Alex to continue to get better.

Thank You all so much for you prayers and support.
