January 15th

Thank you again so much for all of your prayers and support.

You know that we were all asking for everyone to pray for Alex to cough, and we want to thank everyone for praying. Last night was rough because Alex was very restless and unable to cough enough since he is so weak. At 11:30 last night Alex was very tired and his airways were extremely swollen. He was not getting enough oxygen as a result of this, so the doctors had to replace his vent with a smaller one. As it stands now, the doctors are scheduling a tracheotomy and g-tube (feeding tube to stomach) for Tuesday. While this in some ways may be viewed as a step back, we need to make sure we remain focused on the positive steps forward that we have made.

Lisa had some finger communication when she asked Alex if he loved his momma, and I too got a typical Alex "signal" (if you know his humor) when I asked if he could blink. I guess he got a little bit tired of the questions...
Overall, today was a better day. Alex slept all day and was allowed NO VISITORS, only IMMEDIATE FAMILY. This will be the case until Tuesday is over. We know that everyone would love to come see Alex, but right now we need him to get all the rest he can so he remains free of infection before going in for the tracheotomy. He has had a rough couple of days and today's rest was much needed.

"I hate that he can't have visitors, however, put yourself in his shoes and think about people coming in all day talking and touching and you just want to rest but can't. You are all VERY WELCOME to come hang out in the waiting room because you all give me strength and I love seeing the people that Alex has touched their hearts..." - Lisa
Prayer for today and tonight... rest, brain swelling to go down, esophagus swelling to go down and produce good cough.... if these things happen THEN we might not need the trach!!! Soooo let's pray for that!
"Thank you all again for constant love, support, cards, texts, emails, prayers, donations, food and LOVE! The family and I could never get through this without all of you and I am reminded daily of how lucky I am to be the mom of such an awesome young man. TEAM ALEX is in the house!"
-Lisa

Please keep Alex and us in your prayers, we need it. As always, thank you!

P.S. Sorry it was so late tonight.
